Ceramic Coating Protection Layers

What is Ceramic Coating?

  • Ceramic Coating is a long-term protection option for your paint, trim, rims, or glass.
  • It serves as a “Sacrificial Layer” of protection for your paint’s Clear Coat.
  • This chemical mixture provides a deep gloss to your paint. Ceramic Coatings are also resistant to detergents and chemicals, making it long-lasting, unlike waxes.
  • With Ceramic Coating, you never have to wax your vehicle again, so you often save money long-term, as well as time.
  • Your paint will become extremely hydrophobic, making any liquid and dirt/dust slip off easily from the paint surface when rinsing or washing.
  • Ceramic Coating protects your paint from being penetrated by harmful UV Rays which easily destroy the Clear Coat & Paint unprotected surfaces (very common to see damaged car paint in the RGV).
  • Ceramic Coating adds a very deep and amazing gloss to your paint, oftentimes making it look “better than new”.
  • While Ceramic Coatings don’t protect against scratches completely, they do help provide sufficient enough protection against light scratches & swirls for general washing and regular maintenance.
  • Our 10-Year Ceramic Coating for your paint will last 10 years, while our 1-Year Ceramic Coating for your paint will last 1 Year, but often lasts 18 months.

Ceramic Coating FAQ’s

General FAQ’s

What is Ceramic Coating?
  • Ceramic Coating is a long-term protection option for your paint, trim, rims, or glass.
  • It serves as a “Sacrificial Layer” of protection for your paint’s Clear Coat.
  • It is a chemical mixture that, most importantly, contains “Silica Dioxide” (SiO2). This chemical contains a 9H hardness rating (highest possible), which is durable and can protect your paint for years.
  • This chemical mixture provides a deep gloss to your paint.
  • Ceramic Coatings are also resistant to detergents and chemicals, making it long-lasting, unlike waxes.
What does a Ceramic Coating do? What does it protect against?
  • With Ceramic Coating, you never have to wax your vehicle again, so you often save money long-term, as well as time.
  • Your paint will become extremely hydrophobic, making any liquid and dirt/dust slip off easily from the paint surface when rinsing or washing. This hydrophobic affect will cut your washing time in half, and make washing safer from possible scratches because dirt and dead bugs are automatically loosened, avoiding friction from a wash mitt and your paint. In addition, it will make drying your vehicle so much easier, because the water will slip off easily with a leaf blower, or something similar.
I wax my vehicle. Shouldn’t that be good enough?
  • If you are looking for a quick and temporary protection, maybe. If you want to truly protect your paint and keep it looking new, then no.
  • Wax provides minimal paint protection, and can be very inconsistent.
  • With wax, you have to re-apply it every 6-8 weeks for it to be effective.
  • Wax does not form a strong bond to the paint, and can easily be stripped off by detergents (soap).
  • Wax has a low melting point, and can melt in the extreme heat we experience in the in the Rio Grande Valley, leaving your paint completely unprotected (especially for people who park their vehicle outside).
  • Wax is also very tedious to apply, as compared to Ceramic Coating (one application, and you’re done!).
Who SHOULD get a Ceramic Coating?
  • Someone who intends to maintain their vehicle with care (hand washing, proper materials & chemicals, etc.).
  • Someone who intends on keeping their paint looking new for years to come.
  • Someone who hates waxing their vehicle over and over, and wants to cut down their washing time.
  • Someone who loves their car!
Who SHOULDN’T get a Ceramic Coating?
  • Someone who is not too concerned with the look of your paint, but cares more about the car getting you from “Point A to Point B”.
  • Someone who does not hand-wash their car, but uses machine washes instead.
  • Someone who intends on trading in or replacing their vehicle very quickly.
Are all Ceramic Coatings the same?
  • No. Ceramic Coatings differ in longevity, application procedures, chemical make-up, curing time, application instructions, and more.
  • Alpha Lion Auto Detailing uses GYEON Ceramic Coatings. We are the only certified installers of GYEON Ceramic Coatings, which are guaranteed to last up to 10-years (paint coating).
  • In the years of applying Ceramic Coatings, our great product has received fantastic customer reviews, starting from the time of installation, to years afterwards.

  • Our Trim Coatings last 1-2 Years.
  • Our Rim Coatings last 1 1/2 Years or 10,000 Miles.

  • If properly maintained, a Ceramic Coating should last the life of the specific coating’s warranty period, or possibly longer.
Is there a warranty you offer?
  • Yes! For our 10-Year Ceramic Coating, we offer a 3-Year or 10-Year Warranty. There is no additional cost for this.
  • To maintain this warranty, you essentially will just need to properly maintain your vehicle with proper washing methods, and avoid using any abrasive products or tools. This will ensure that your coating stays healthy and lasts for a very long time.
  • Call us to find out more specifics about this.
What are the different types of Ceramic Coating you offer?
  • We offer Ceramic Coating for paint, plastic trim, rims, leather, as well as a glass coating.

Pricing and Process FAQ’s

Do I need a garage? Do you offer one for people?
  • Yes, and Yes! Ceramic Coating application must be performed indoors, away from the elements.
  • We mainly want to avoid moisture or water of any sort, as these can create heavy water spots on newly ceramic coated paint.
  • Since we are a completely mobile company, we safely & cleanly apply Ceramic Coatings in the garages of customers, or other enclosed areas.
  • However, we do offer our own personal garage for customers who do not have a garage or access to one. There is no charge for this – We are here to help!
How long does the actual application process take?
  • Ceramic Coating application time can vary due to the size of a customer’s vehicle.
  • Time can also be added if a customer chooses to add extra coatings such as Trim Coating, Glass Coating, Rim Coating, or others.
  • If customers want paint scratches and swirls to be removed, this will add extra time to an appointment.
  • Most customers choose to leave their keys with us while they leave to take care of personal errands. Feel free to take care of whatever you need to while we are working!
  • Here is a rough service time estimate:
    • Cars: 5-8 hours
    • Small SUV’s/Small Trucks: 6-9 Hours
    • Large Trucks/SUV’s: 7-10 Hours
    • XL Trucks/XL SUV’s: 8-12 Hours
How do you determine the price?
  • The price of a Ceramic Coating is determined by vehicle size, types of ceramic coatings you wish to purchase, possible paint polishing (as requested by customers), and other possible additional services needed (ex. Water spot removal, tar removal, paint overspray removal, etc.).
  • The exact price is determined with a FREE in-person quote.
  • Call us to set up your FREE quote!
What’s the process involved with a Ceramic Coating?
  • Step 1: Detailed Hand-Wash, clay bar treatment, iron decontamination. As well as a detailed cleaning of your tires, rims, wheel wells, plastic trim, fenders, and glass.
  • (Possible Additional Step): Possible Paint Correction & Scratch Removal, if requested.
  • Step 2: Surface Prep. We ensure that the surface of the paint, glass, and plastic trim is free of dirt, smudges, or any other imperfections. This will assist the bonding of the Ceramic Coating to your paint (or other surfaces).
  • Step 3: Ceramic Coating Application of all portions requested.
  • Step 4: Curing (Bonding/Solidifying) Time. 12 Hours is recommended, however, 24 Hours is optimal.
  • Step 5: Final post-day check-up.

Maintenance FAQ’s

Can I use Machine Washes or Tunnel Washes after a Ceramic Coating?
  • Unfortunately, no. While Machine Washes & Tunnel Washes serve their intended purpose of getting a quick & cheap wash, they are notorious for not only stripping away Ceramic Coating from vehicles, but also creating scratches & swirls immediately on your paint.
  • They utilize abrasive/aggressive commercial sized brushes that often contain residual dirt & grime from previously washed vehicles.
  • In addition, the intense water pressure and extremely close distance to your vehicle is not safe for your paint.
  • If a newly Ceramic Coated vehicle is taken even just once to one of these quick-wash places, the Ceramic Coating will be stripped away, after just one or two washes.
After the service is finished, how soon after can I drive my vehicle?
  • After we are finished applying your Ceramic Coating, you need to wait 12-24 Hours for the Ceramic Coating to “cure” (solidify & bond) properly within a garage or enclosed space. 12 hours is sufficient, however, 24 hours of curing time is optimal.
  • After this, you are free to drive your vehicle, however, you cannot wash your vehicle for one week (avoiding any chemicals).
  • Following these recommendations will ensure your coating’s longevity.
Are there any special chemicals I need to wash my vehicle with now?
  • We can provide you with our recommended list of products and tools, after the coating is complete.
  • However, you will want to hand-wash your vehicle with pH-Neutral soap while utilizing microfiber wash mitts, and air drying.
  • If you use a towel to dry, make sure to use a microfiber towel (make sure to remove the tag!).

Other Common FAQ’s

Will this prevent Rock Chip damage and Scratches?
  • Unfortunately, no. Whether you get a Ceramic Coating with us, or with anyone else, Ceramic Coating does NOT prevent rock chips or scratches from occurring.
  • While Ceramic Coating provides an invisible layer of protection, the only true way of protection from rock chips is getting a Paint Protection Film. Even then, the actual film will get scratches and take the brunt of damage, but this will now make your film look damaged and unpleasant.
Is a Paint Correction necessary before applying a Ceramic Coating? Is it included in the total cost?
  • No, paint correction is not needed in order to perform a Ceramic Coating. This is a common misconception in the auto detailing community.
  • However, getting a paint correction, or even a touch-up paint polishing will definitely bring even more life to your paint, and the end product.
  • Lastly, the cost of a paint correction is not included in the total cost. Please refer to our Paint Correction website page for more info about paint correction pricing, and other related information.
